What is dot fun?

dot fun is Transient Labs’ experimental playground for building and launching micro-apps that push the boundaries of creativity, tech, and fun in Web3. Upcoming apps like Dynamic Art Engine (a no-code tool for dynamic and generative art), Handshake (on-chain agreements between parties), and Thrift Store Contracts (enabling donation and claiming of unwanted digital assets) show how dot fun is a platform driven by innovation, community participation, and creative solutions to real-world problems.

While we’re constantly creating and building new concepts ourselves, we believe some of the best ideas come from the community. This initiative is a way for everyone—whether you're technical or not—to share your ideas and have the opportunity to see them come to life within the dot fun ecosystem.

The best ideas should:

  • Encourage creativity and interactivity—think about tools or games that are easy to use and fun to engage with.

  • Foster long-term engagement—focus on concepts that motivate users to return regularly, creating sustained interest and interaction.

  • Where possible, use Web3 features (e.g., NFTs, smart contracts, ERC-20’s), but Web2.5 ideas are also welcome.

  • Bonus: Aim to generate/maximize on-chain interaction for potential revenue through transaction fees. The winner will receive perpetual revenue kickbacks from the app built based on their idea!

Submission Guidelines

  1. Concept: Describe your idea clearly. Please utilize graphics, images, flow charts, etc. to explain your app idea and how it might work.

Battle of Web3 Minds

Concept: An online quiz application where users can compete in real-time by answering questions related to Web3, blockchain, and other relevant topics. The app allows players to participate in different categories of questions and test their knowledge in a competitive and engaging environment. The primary goal of this app is both entertainment and education, introducing new users from Web2 into the Web3 space and enhancing the knowledge of existing Web3 users. Functionality: Once players log into the app and choose the "Join Match" option, the system randomly pairs them with an available online opponent. The players are then presented with three random categories from which they can choose one. Each round consists of 5 questions from the selected category. Players earn a green light and points for each correct answer, and a red light for each incorrect answer. After the player finishes, their opponent answers the same set of questions. Then, the opponent selects a category and answers their set of questions first, continuing the cycle. This process repeats for 5 rounds, and at the end, the player with the highest score wins the match. Interactions: One of the key features of the app is the ability for users to submit their own questions. Users can submit questions related to different Web3 topics, which will be reviewed by the development team. Upon approval, the questions are added to the game. Each time a question authored by a user is included in a match and answered incorrectly by another player, the original author of the question earns a specified amount of tokens. ARTMATCH: Connect Artists with Collectors

CONCEPT ArtMatch is a tinder-like web application that matches artists with collectors. FUNCTIONALITY Random artworks with only the image/video and title will be retrieved by major marketplaces through their APIs and presented to the user in form of swipeable cards. Swipe left to dismiss, right to like. The algorithm will assign affinity points with liked artists (whose names are hidden to avoid biases), liked tags and similar artists liked by other users. The user can directly go to the marketplace page to purchase the artwork from the liked cards. VALUE This app solves 2 main problems: Art Browsing and Discoverability. The user don’t have to go through hundreds of uninteresting works to find what they like. The algorithm will learn and present them directly, while giving them suggestions to expand their interests from time to time. Artists have the problem of being a new name or not being relevant enough. By removing the name the bias is put in second place. Only after seeing the image you can discover who the artist is when you want to go for a purchase. ENGAGEMENT Chat in app with artists whose artworks a user liked: help to create a meaningful connection and relationship. Suggest an artwork: send artworks you like to a friend. Art discovery sucks. Let’s fix it. The Concept ArtGuessr is a fun, interactive app inspired by GeoGuessr, where players are challenged to guess key details of random pieces of on-chain art. Points are awarded for accuracy, with players competing against each other to climb the global leaderboard and prove their on-chain art knowledge. Concept VeilPNG is a utility designed to securely hide sensitive data within PNG images using encryption and compression techniques. It allows users to embed any file into a PNG image by compressing the data and encrypting it with a password. The data is stored within a custom chunk in the PNG file format, ensuring that the image remains valid while concealing the hidden content. Users can later extract the hidden file by providing the correct password. VeilPNG uses AES-256 encryption to protect the embedded data, offering a secure way to transfer private information within seemingly innocuous images. Investors can acquire NFTs that act as pre-sales of the product, shares in the company, or simply as a receipt acknowledging their contribution or ownership of a part of the company. Functionality: Users can create fundraising campaigns in which others can participate by purchasing NFTs. These NFTs offer different benefits: Product pre-sale: Buyers receive the product when it’s ready, depending on their contribution level. Recognition as a collaborator: NFTs that don’t grant products but serve as digital receipts, acknowledging users as sponsors of the project. Hidden QR or link

As an artist I would love to see a feature that transient can add where you guys can create a QR code for one of my artworks and I can hide it in this artwork (it can be a QR or link). It could be hidden in pixels where you need to super zoom into the work to find it. Once a viewer finds it it can bring them to a page where they can claim a free physical or digital work just for searching around an artwork. It would work on a first come basis where once it's snagged the item can't be claimed anymore. Making the art process even funner for viewers.
